Transformation
Walsall is in the early phases of a £1.5 billion programme of investment, from road infrastructure and boosting connectivity, to a town centre masterplan and much more.
In the last 5-10 years we've created 3,600 jobs and 1,721 new homes. We're currently creating a further 1,067 homes, 1,724 jobs, new railway stations and improving junction 10 of the M6.
Connectivity
Located at the heart of the UK, Walsall is a prime strategic location for economic growth.
Walsall is at the centre of a growing city region with over 2.9 million residents and a dynamic £77 billion economy, with excellent local connectivity to Birmingham and the Black Country and national reach. This platform makes it a popular base for company headquarters, including AF Blakemore, ASSA ABLOY, Babcock International, Homeserve, Poundland, One Stop Stores, RAC and whg.
"At our Walsall office we employ 700 people and are a long-standing employee in the borough having been founded there. This allows a close relationship with the local community, and we partner with Walsall FC"
Matt Hill, Chief People Officer, Homeserve
The borough’s excellent road and rail connectivity, proximity to Birmingham International Airport, skilled labour market and future employment land supply present significant opportunities for further inward investment.

Our growing and skilled workforce
Walsall has a growing, diverse and young population, with predicted above-average growth of 25,000 new residents by 2050.
Walsall’s people are its greatest asset, with nearly 174,000 working age residents with diverse skillsets. Nearly 60,000 of our residents are degree qualified. The borough’s excellent road and rail connectivity further adds to our workforce proposition; employers have access to a deep labour pool of nearly 1.5 million across the WMCA, over 760,000 of which have a degree.
Our young and diverse population presents a significant opportunity to nurture the workforce of the future. Over 91% of our schools are ‘Good’ or better, with a strong post-16 offer including Walsall College and its 14,000 strong student body and the University of Wolverhampton’s Walsall campus.
“It is the people of Walsall who make me most proud to come from this area. I built my business with good people and with good people, who work hard, you can achieve a great deal.”
Steve Smith, Poundland Founder
Investment here rapidly converts into jobs, skills and inclusive growth, driven by strong public private partnerships and a capable, scalable workforce of over 106,900 people and a further 20,000 entrepreneurs. A unified local partnership including the Council and Walsall College is committed to raising aspirations, widening opportunity and creating a world class employment and skills system, particularly in our growth sectors.
This young and expanding population is also driving residential values across the borough, as our value proposition and connectivity to major employment centres including Birmingham city centre attracts first time buyers and ‘up sizers’ alike.
First time buyers made up over half of Walsall house sales in 2023 (ONS), placing the Borough in the top 15% of locations including Manchester, Salford, Sandwell and Coventry.
Walsall offers a strategic opportunity to be part of a place that is not only growing but transforming.
